PiNKII grew up in a small town and had decided to become a J-pop idol in high school. After a few years of hard work, she became one of the first non-Japanese girls to become popular in the underground idol scene in Japan. Eventually, she realized that being an idol in Japan wasn’t about the music or art. That is was actually about maintaining the image of a sweet and quiet young girl. After being caught with a boyfriend, which is not allowed in idol culture, she thought her j-pop career was over.
Years later, she went the opposite direction, and started performing trap music in clubs across Tokyo. She also built an online presence with her Japanese youtube channel, that reached over 100,000 subscribers. Even then, she felt she wasn’t being herself and missed indulging in cute fashion, music, and cosplay. Because of this, she decided to create her own style of music. A style that comes across as cute but packs a punch. PiNKII’s music spreads the message that just because a girl wants to enjoy cute things, she doesn’t have to change her personality to fit into a mold.
